Countdown To The Premier League 22/23

It’s back! Almost 11 weeks after Manchester City sealed the title last season, the most exciting league in the world returns for another tightly fought campaign. So, are you ready to do it all over again? Here’s everything you need to know with days to go before the new season begins.

The season will begin on Friday, August 5 with Crystal Palace set to host Arsenal at Selhurst Park, followed by six more fixtures throughout the day on Saturday, then the last three games on the Sunday.

Who’s Going To Win The Premier League?

The big question. We can’t see past another close battle between Liverpool and Manchester City in 2022-23, with Jürgen Klopp’s Reds edging out Pep Guardiola’s side for the recent Charity Shield.

Despite that, Manchester City are slight favourites at 8/13, with Liverpool at 23/10. Should Liverpool come out victors, it would mean just a second league win in the Premier League era, after lifting the trophy without their fans at Anfield in 2019-20 and their 20th English top-flight title in history. This would take them level with Manchester United for the most top-flight league wins since the English Football League began in 1888.

What About The Other Contenders?

Manchester United have a new manager, Erik Ten Hag - whole plans to bring a philosophy of hard work and professionalism to the club not seen since Sir Alex Ferguson. This season seems a little early for them though.

Chelsea seemed comfortable last season despite Werner and Lukaku underperforming, which left them with no real recognised striker sans Havertz, who performed solidly in the second half of the season.

Antonion Conte has strengthened Tottenham with some smart signings including Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic and the always dangerous Richarlison. These signings will undoubtedly take the pressure off Son Heung-min and Harry Kane who were relentless last time out. Arsenal's new look young side has strong potential and signings like Gabriel Jesus will only strengthen them this season.

With the teams from London strengthening it could be the biggest and tightest London battle in years.

Who Will Be Relegated?

It doesn’t look hopeful for any of the teams who won promotion from the Championship last year. Bournemouth currently sit as favourites to go down at 15/8, with Fulham at 4/1 and Nottingham Forest at 9/2 respectively.

When will the Premier League take a break for the World Cup?

This season will be a bit unusual due to the Qatar World Cup, which will start in late November and end just before Christmas. Because of this, the Premier League will take a break with many players from all 20 clubs likely to be involved for their respective countries.

As it stands, there will be 16 Premier League rounds played between August and November 12/13. After this, the league will stop.

The FIFA World Cup tournament gets underway on November 21 and will finish on December 18. The Premier League will resume on December 26, Boxing Day.
