What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Claire and I'm from Perth, Scotland. Originally I am from the West Coast but most of my Mum's family live up this way and I moved up here just over 20 years ago for work, and never left!
Are you married? Kids, family etc?
I live with my partner (of 10 years) and have a 12 year old daughter from a previous relationship.
If you work, what is your job?
I work part-time for Waterstones as a bookseller. I love my job as I am the ultimate bookworm.
How long have you been a member Of PA?
Since November 2017. I had just taken the job at Waterstones and I was looking for some additional income as before this I had always worked full-time and I wanted some additional income to cover what I had lost by going part-time. A friend of my partner had mentioned matched betting purely because he had just given up his job to do it full-time. Initially I thought it was far too good to be true, because really, money for nothing . . . usually it is a con, but after doing some (actually a lot) of research I decided to give it a go. PA seemed to have the better reviews in terms of the site navigation, forum help and great admins.
How did you originally hear about PA?
Through my research into matched betting I found this site and it came out ahead of the others in my opinion due to the more rounded services, help offered and nice people in the forums.
How have you found the site so far?
I enjoy the site, I find it incredibly easy to navigate, find offers, watch threads, and if I need help (as I am still learning) it is a simple thing to ask a question, there is always someone online be it an admin or another matched bettor who will help. I think the longest I have waited for a reply is about 10 minutes, that is incredibly good service especially as betting odds can and do move very quickly.
How much money do you think you’ve made so far?
£819.88. It would have been more but I had to take some time off as I was down for nearly three weeks with flu, and made some silly rookie errors. It has all been and continues to be a learning curve.
Bought anything nice with your profits?
I have paid deposits for two holidays this year. Nothing fancy, a week away to Leicestershire in July and a long weekend in September at one of the Forest Holiday resorts, can't wait!
Are you saving up for anything special?
We would all love to go abroad next year, probably to northern Spain or somewhere in northern Italy. The only issue is I do not fly well, I am terrified of heights and need to take beta blockers to try and remain calm without weeping hysterically on the plane! Much to the amusement of my daughter who thinks flying is awesome.
Do your family/friends understand how you make this money?
Unfortunately not. My family is very much anti-betting and cannot understand that although it involves betting, it is a risk free enterprise. They are waiting for the day where I lose everything, become a gambling addict and can then say I told you so...ok so that might be a little harsh but for my mum it definitely isn't far from the truth 🙂
How much time do you spend doing matched betting?
As a relatively new matched bettor I still spend a fair amount of time looking at offers and deciding whether to do them or not, so I probably average about 10 - 15 hours per week. Although some of this is spent going through all the new forum posts and doesn't necessarily make me anything, I do like to see and read about what others are doing. I keep detailed records and have a small notebook that I use to mark down any hints or tips I come across, incase I can't find the post when I am next looking for it.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of starting?
I think I was lucky when I started as I only had a small pot to begin with (£200), this meant I had to really take my time, go through the offers one by one and slowly build up my bank. I think following the signup offers in order is really the best way to go, especially if like me, you have never bet before in your life. I am still struggling to understand acca's as they appear to be where you can make good money, but I am not quite ready yet. Those with bigger banks can make more costly mistakes, and even with my small bank there were a couple of weeks where an error cost me the whole weeks profit!
What would you say to the people who think its a scam and sounds too good to be true?
Do your research like I did and understand what you are getting into. Yes a lot of the time these things are scams, but this actually isn't. I am comfortably earning £200 per month just through opening offers and weekly betting offers, they may all be for small amount like £1 - £3 but these add up. If it was a scam I wouldn't be earning that money.
What advice would you give to new PA members that have just started?
Take your time. Also do loads of research. If you are not sure ask. There are so many members on the forum who are happy to help.
What aspects of the PA site do you like?
Mainly the forum. All the information is easily sorted into understandable sections and is very easy to find and navigate. I love the site, the people and the admins - couldn't ask for better.
