Matched betting is an increasingly popular way to earn money as a student. After recently graduating at the University of Winchester, Lauren is now saving money ahead of her Masters. Here's Lauren's story...

Tell us a little about your studies

History has been my passion for as long as I can remember and I want to share that passion with others, so I always had it in mind to do something educational career-wise.

In the end I set about applying for the Museum Studies MA course at the University of Leicester, with the aim of going into either curating or collections care.

You're hoping matched betting will help you do your Masters early?

The course itself is £7,500 for one year and my accommodation costs are around the £5,500 mark, plus the cost of course books and general day-to-day living costs.

Postgraduate students can currently apply for a loan from Student Finance for just over £10,000 but, as you can imagine, that amount is quickly swallowed up by the course and half of the accommodation costs.

Therefore, my original plan was to graduate, work for a year or two and then apply and use my savings. At the moment I am unemployed but I am looking for work. However, I am not having much luck, just the other day I got rejected from a cleaning job for not having the required experience.

How long have you been a member of Profit Accumulator?

I joined in early May as a paid member after having done the two free trial bets.

How did you hear about it?

I've sort of been aware of matched betting for a few years but had no idea what it was or what it meant. The only betting I had done previously was the odd bet on the Grand National or the occasional trip to Gala Bingo, so bookies and betting was a totally alien concept to me.

The first time I'd heard of matched betting was from a lad at uni. I can remember seeing screenshots of his winnings and thinking "how stupid that he risks his money!".

Obviously, I did not realise just what he was doing and that it was risk-free. Fast-forward a couple of years and I was trawling YouTube when I came across a channel run by money-saving blogger Emma Drew.

In one of her videos, she gave a basic explanation of what matched betting is and enthusiastically endorsed Profit Accumulator. So I gave it a go myself and the rest is history.

How have you found it?

I love it! It takes so much of the pressure off me to find a job. Obviously, I am still looking but knowing I can at least have some income is a weight off my mind.

How much time do you spend on matched betting?

It can vary depending on whats on, but I would say total time is maybe two to three hours a day.

Why does matched betting appeal to you?

Because it's so quick and easy and it fits around you. As long as you have wifi you can do it anywhere, and some bets can take as little as a few minutes to complete.

What would be your advice to someone thinking of trying it?

Give it a go, you have nothing to lose! It may seem complicated at first but Profit Accumulator makes the process so simple, and soon enough you'll be placing bets like a pro.

My first one took me an hour but now I have it down to just a few minutes. Everyone should definitely do the free trial and I guarantee you won't be able to stop when you see what money you could be making.

Are there any aspects of Profit Accumulator you particularly like?

I love that there is a forum where I can ask questions, it's such a supportive community and everyone helps each other. It's reassuring to know that if I am stuck I can ask for help and no question is too stupid.
