Matched betting for students is particularly popular as it provides a great alternative to a part-time job while studying. Dan, an engineering student at Durham University, shared his experience with Profit Accumulator
How long have you been a member of PA?
Just under two years.
How did you hear about it - were you sceptical at first?
In my second year at uni, one of my housemates was doing it and told me to get on board. Like most people, I guess, I thought it sounded a bit too good to be true and was worried it was a scam.
I tried the two sign-up offers in the free trial and it clicked. I realised how it works and since then I haven't looked back.
How have you found it?
It's been a great way to earn money while I study. I was looking at getting a job to help out but, obviously, matched betting is more preferable because you can pretty much do it when it suits you.
I would never have got close to the amounts with a part-time job.
What do you do with the profit you make?
I save a lot of it to help build my bank, because the more you have, the more you can make (it took me a while to realise this). But I still do dip into my profits all the time to pay for things like nights out, food, train tickets. Usual student stuff, I guess!
How much time do you spend on matched betting?
I do most of it at weekends and a bit during the week. Maybe a total of 10 hours. During the season, I like to watch the football results come in anyway, so it's great to get my bets sorted in the morning and then follow the scores.
Why does matched betting appeal to you?
As I said, I like to follow sport and it makes it even more interesting, but with the knowledge that you can't lose. The fact it you can do as much or as little as you like also appeals to me.
What would be your advice to someone thinking of trying matched betting?
I would say give it a go. I can see why it's not for everyone but if you get your head around it and can spare a bit of time, then it's a no-brainer really. You couldn't really get more sceptical than I was but I'm now a convert!
Are there any aspects of Profit Accumulator you particularly like?
The site is really solid and the oddsmatching tools are getting better all the time. Like most people, though, I think the forum is the stand-out feature. There's just so much knowledge in there.
