Matched betting has helped NHS employee Lee, from Middlesbrough, stop worrying about money. Here's his story...

Who's in your family?

I have a wife and two children (15 and 18).

What is your job?

I work for an NHS organisation called NHS Digital and am a programme manager by day, by night I am an internet entrepreneur, trying to help people to get out of payday loan debt.

How long have you been a member of PA?

About 14 months.

How did you hear about it?

I was ill and off work, I was reading Facebook and an advert came up.

I have a tendency to try internet money-making schemes so I can tell my family why they shouldn’t try them (through my own experience rather than hearsay). I was very sceptical about PA but I had to give it a go in case anyone in the family asked me about it.

How have you found it - how much do you make from it?

It has changed my life. I mean it. I don’t know the exact amount, I gave up counting because now it’s part of my income. I would say about £800 per month on average. I pay higher rate tax, so it’s more like £1,100 to me.

What do you do with the profit you make?

The NHS has had real-term pay cuts for the last seven years so matched betting has been, in effect, my pay rise. To earn that much more in my day job I would have to get a good few promotions, which would take years.

Some things are intangible, though. For instance, I know if I lost my job I could make a really good income so the worry of losing my job has gone. I am using some of the money to set up other businesses at no risk (because I got the money for free, not from my main income). I am able to set up a business and not have to worry about investment capital etc. because I have free money coming in.

Not only that I have shown other people and I know it has had similar impact on their lives. It’s really hard to explain but I feel like I have a skill for life that allows me to literally magic money out of nowhere!

How much time do you spend on matched betting?

This is a difficult one. At first all my time, it’s free money and I wanted more, all the time. Now it’s built into my day and I just do it like other people would watch television or something. I guess around an hour each day in total and probably 2-3 hours on an average Saturday and Sunday.

I didn’t realise how massive Cheltenham Festival is so wasn’t prepared this year. Next year I am taking 4 days off work and will be matched betting as many hours as needed!

Why does matched betting appeal to you?

First and foremost it is completely risk and cost free. All the money I have earned from it so far has not cost me even one penny to get. I signed up for the free account and didn’t even give PA any payment details. I made about £40 that very night, then signed up for a month’s account. I then made about £300-£400 in the first month and bought an annual membership with that so I was well over £200 in profit. I literally have not spent one penny of my own money.

Second is that I can do it anytime. I have chronic anxiety which means my sleep pattern is more than a bit weird. I can do matched betting at any time, morning day or night. There’s no stress to have to do things at certain times (if I don’t want to).
